It all began in 2007 with the launch of 040 Recordings.
In a beer-fueled mood at the former MINI-BAR on the Reeperbahn, on the corner of Große Freiheit, friend and DJ Hagen Feelty played a track by three guys from Hamburg who were still looking for a label. HIGHTOWER – Funk On Fire was the name of the song and thus the first release, pressed on vinyl, 040REC001 sold 500 copies through the former Web-Records shop. You couldn’t have had a better start.

Over 100 releases on vinyl and digitally followed. Numerous highlights ensued, such as placements in the minimal and techno charts on Beatport, Beatport banner support, numerous positive reviews in Raveline, FAZE Mag, De:Bug, etc., as well as the first 040 label party at Schützenhaus (Marlow) with Carlo Ruetz, Nico Pusch, and Marco Maniera. In 2016, the label was put into hibernation, but rumor has it that this could soon be over.
040 Recordings quickly became synonymous with the sound of minimal and techno. But things evolve, interests shift that’s just part of life so something new and fresh was needed. That’s why Audio Safari was founded in 2012.

😂😂😂
The early sound was deeper and groovier, but the name Audio Safari stands for diversity, not for a sound that’s currently trendy. It’s about the artists and their individuality. Every artist should stand by their style and get a chance to establish it. Audio Safari has also released numerous vinyl records. The physical product is very important to us and is part of our DNA.
We have now surpassed the milestone of 150 releases. After a two-year break for various reasons, in 2025 the motivation, vision, and enjoyment returned to release new music again.
The journey is far from over. So follow us on the usual social media channels or, even better, sign up for our newsletter or join one of our groups on WhatsApp or Discord. That way, you’ll be the first to know everything.
